Teen Mom personality Farrah Abraham teamed up with adult entertainment star, James Deen, and filmed a sex tape entitled “Farrah Superstar: Backdoor Teen Mom.” Though there is differing opinions from both parties as to whether this film was meant to be sold, Farrah’s deal with Vivid Entertainment earned her an advance of $1.5 Million plus 30% residuals. During the peak of the film’s popularity, her residuals added up to about $60,000 per month. Her most recent total earning for the film has her estimated at about $2,450,000.
Paris Hilton’s claim to fame was her sex tape filmed with boyfriend Rick Salomon. It’s been reported that Paris was paid $13 million while Rick only earned $10 million. Initially, Paris was threatening to sue Rick for releasing the tape without her permission; however, she ended up settling out of court for 50% royalties. Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee set out to capture their honeymoon and all its intimate moments on tape. They soon regretted the tape slipping into the hands of adult entertainment company, Internet Entertainment Group. However, they successfully sued the company for $740,000, which is what the company reported as their share of the video cassette, DVD, and internet sales. This infamous video has earned the company over $100 million since its release in 1995. Unfortunately for Tom and Pam, they didn’t have any deal with IGE to release the video, and they missed out of the potential for tens of millions in royalties.
Last, but certainly not least, Kim Kardashian takes the number one spot for her world debut video, “Kim K Superstar,” filmed with boyfriend Ray J in 2007. Kim and Ray J’s deal with Vivid Entertainment earned them an upfront advance of $5 Million for the rights to the video and a promise of monthly royalties, which died down to just under $30,000 a month after the initial buzz. Until Kim’s recent nude spread in Paper Magazine caused a resurgence in her sex tape’s sales, Pam and Tommy Lee held the top spot for longest standing, highest selling sex tape of all time. Kim K Superstar has since dethroned them, earning Ray J a reported $50,000 in just one week, all this after seven years since its initial release.
